The proposed Omnibus Law on Job Creation in Indonesia threatens the basic protection of workers' rights. The bill, as it currently stands, will remove safeguards that align with international labour law standards. If passed, it could lead to workers working more excessive overtime, for less income, without job security. An industry alliance - including Fair Wear and several of its member brands - has written to the Indonesian president citing concerns over the labour rights implications of the bill. The group calls for the government to rethink these proposed legislative changes in full cooperation with trade unions and business associations in order to safeguard the fundamental rights of Indonesian workers.
