In August 2019, IFAW upgraded four of the six security bases in the community lands. These bases house the community wildlife rangers that protect animals which roam within community lands, known as group ranches of which OOGR is the largest in Amboseli – covering 147,000 hectares and almost completely surrounds the Amboseli National Park . The community lands offer dispersal areas for wildlife as the Park which is only 392 square kilometres is too small to accommodate all the wildlife including the approximately 2,100 elephants. Read about how IFAW, along with our supporters, was able to provide safer and securer housing for these rangers.
