In contrast to its neighboring islands, which are volcanic, New Caledonia is a fragment of a former continent that broke away some 250 million years ago. Its flora and fauna are totally unique since they have evolved in a vacuum.
The island contains over three thousand plant species, of which 3/4 are only found here. From the most beautiful beaches of white sand to the spectacular landscapes of Mont Panié, New Caledonia offers an infinite variety of natural settings.
