In Iberá, northeastern Argentina, three out of four couples of red-and-green macaws that showed a territorial behavior laid eggs in nest boxes. Egg-laying in amateur couples is crucial for the macaws to learn to rear chicks. We intervene by checking if the eggs are fertile—if they’re not, we take them out to induce a new laying.
